Circus Animals
Send out the clowns
So, Susie Wiles has placated the world with the news that she will not allow the clowns access to Trump’s white house. Hmm.. great to hear, but it isn’t the clowns we should be worried about. Clown faces are scary (or is that just me?) Years of visiting the circus in Blackpool and seeing Charlie Cairoli under the big top, has left a scar that may never heal and a dislike of bowler hats, red noses and oversize shoes! However, clowns are harmless. They usually end up with custard pies in their faces and they hurry off, in their silly cars. We all laugh and move on to look up and become distracted by death defying high wire acts.
While all this is happening, we aren’t paying attention to the wild animals being wheeled out into the ring. We all gasp as the animal tamer places their head in the mouth of the Lion or Tiger, safe in the knowledge that it isn’t our head and the animals are in cages. We are safe, protected and after being entertained, we can return home safe in the knowledge that the wild animals are placated and in their cage for the night. But what would happen if those wild animals were let loose on the public? What if the circus ring leader, let’s call her Susie, was only paying attention to keeping those silly, annoying clowns in order and was happy to let the wild animals go crazy? What would that look like, when the circus arrives in town? Remember Susie is in charge, she was the one who built the circus tent, wrote the program and has spent years feeding the wild animals with raw meat.
The wild animals are about to be let loose in the circus and while ringleader Susie is focusing on wiping up custard pies on a daily basis, those lions and tigers are going to run wild on the US economy, migrants, health and social services, foreign policy, justice, climate policy, institutions and the constitution in general.
Let’s never forget the Cavalorn tweet, which sums up this circus perfectly "'I never thought leopards would eat MY face,' sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party."
One day soon, we will be advertising for lion tamers, but maybe they will have all become clowns by then?
